About The Free Wilderness Survival Program for Kids and Youth

The purpose of this program is to help introduce safety in the outdoors to the younger generation with the aim of making our community safer. Kids and Youth will be given important safety tips and learn about Optimism Bias and how it can affect survival in the outdoors.

This program is useful for kids and youth who participate in outdoor activities such as hiking and camping. It is an overview of how we can enjoy nature in a safe way. Our instructors cover the following topics:

  • Trip planning

  • Survival priorities

  • Being aware of your surroundings

  • Essential items, tools and the required skills

  • A safe place for your shelters

  • Wildlife encounters

Location

The Free Wilderness Survival Program for Kids and Youth is located in Metchosin on Vancouver Island. The address is 1258 Neild Rd, Victoria, BC, Canada.

Prerequisites

  • The participants must be 9 - 17 years old. These are the minimum and maximum ages of participants.

Requirements

  • Clothes fit for weather conditions. If it is rainy, you should wear a rain jacket and pants. There is no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing.

  • Hiking shoes/boots or running shoes

  • Notebook and pencil

  • Water and snacks

  • Any personal items such as anti-allergy medication, sunscreen or insect repellant.

Banned activities

Drinking alcohol, smoking marijuana, bullying others and illegal actions are unacceptable activities during all our programs.

ONE WITH NATURE Corp. is not responsible for injuries. The use of knives, axes, and other tools constitute high-risk activities. If you damage yourself or others, ONE WITH NATURE Corp. is not responsible for the damage or lives lost. All our programs are for educational purposes only. ONE WITH NATURE Corp. strongly recommends taking out insurance prior to participating in our programs. Please speak to an insurance provider about the most appropriate type of insurance you need to participate in any of our programs.

Due to the limited number of participants (10 people per session), bookings are available up to 2 months in advance. Please, do not book a spot for your child if you are not sure that they will participate. By booking this program, you guarantee your child’s participation. If your child cannot attend, you must cancel the booking. Please only book one session. There is a lot of interest in this program and we would like to be able to offer this opportunity to as many as possible. Any multiple bookings will be deleted at our discretion. We will send out an email closer to the date of the program requiring you to confirm your attendance. If you do not confirm your attendance, your booking will be cancelled.

FREE or any amount you would like to donate for the program. Our free programs are based on donations and the community’s support.
