About The Free Wilderness Survival Program for Outdoor Enthusiasts

The purpose of this program is to make our community safer, introduce people to what Optimism Bias is and how Optimism Bias can lead you into dangerous situations. 

This program is useful for hikers and people who like outdoor activities but are not looking to learn every detailed aspect of survival priorities. It is for those who are keen to enjoy nature in a safe way. Our instructors cover the following topics:

  • Proper planning of outdoor activities

  • Essential items, tools and skills to have

  • Survival tactics if you get lost

  • Survival priorities

  • A safe place for your shelters

  • Wildlife

  • Critical thinking and thinking forward in the wilderness

Location

The Free Wilderness Survival Program for Outdoor Enthusiasts is located in Metchosin on Vancouver Island. The address is 1258 Neild Rd, Victoria, BC, Canada.

Prerequisites

  • The minimum age of participants is 17 years old. All participants under the age of 19 have to be accompanied by their guardians.

Requirements

  • Clothes fit for weather conditions. If it is rainy, you should wear a rain jacket and pants. There is no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing.

  • Your smartphone (download the Gaia GPS app from Apple Store or Play Store and create an account in the app)

  • Your backpacking gear if you have it

  • Notebook and pencil

  • Water and snacks

  • Any personal items such as anti-allergy medication, sunscreen or insect repellant.

Banned activities

Drinking alcohol, smoking marijuana, bullying others and illegal actions are unacceptable activities during all our programs.

Important notes

ONE WITH NATURE Corp. is not responsible for injuries. The use of knives, axes, and other tools constitute high-risk activities. If you damage yourself or others, ONE WITH NATURE Corp. is not responsible for the damage or lives lost. All our programs are for educational purposes only. ONE WITH NATURE Corp. strongly recommends taking out insurance prior to participating in our programs. Please speak to an insurance provider about the most appropriate type of insurance you need to participate in any of our programs. 

Due to the limited number of participants (10 people per session), bookings are available up to 2 months in advance.. Please, do not book a spot for yourself if you are not sure that you will participate. By booking this program, you guarantee your participation. If you cannot attend, you must cancel the booking. Please only book one session. There is a lot of interest in this program and we would like to be able to offer this opportunity to as many as possible. Any multiple bookings will be deleted at our discretion. We will send out an email closer to the date of the program requiring you to confirm your attendance. If you do not confirm your attendance, your booking will be cancelled.

FREE or any amount you would like to donate for the program. Our free programs are based on donations and the community’s support.
